dreams are funny things
heat has been messing with my sleep as well: last night i had the ceiling fan on blast, but whether it kept me from
sweat or
from sleep is a debatable topic. at least i wasn’t sweating … finally,
at about 5am - no, at exactly 5am - i awoke realizing i did not need
the fan anymore. so i stumbled to the wall switch and flicked it down.
within minutes - wait, make
that seconds - i had fallen into a deep, restful sleep. later on, i
experience a very real and strange dream that kind of went like this:
I found myself in a beautiful,
airy waterfront loft. 15-foot ceilings with massive picture windows
opened onto a large body of water. after lounging indoors for a short
period, i ventured onto the low, flat, and wide deck that had a couple
of small boat-docking piers. soon, i noticed that there were scores
of sea otters or seals flopping around within just a few feet of the
deck. interested, not frightened, i walked down to the end
of a pier to investigate. moments later, the otters were playing near
me, splashi me, and rocking the pier. in short order, i (somehow) ended
up in the water as well.
once in the water, i located a floatation pad (remember the blue one
we had for the pool at Gibraltar? just like that, but beige.) and started
relaxing. I then noticed a game of water/pseudo-volleyball going on
all around me, and started playing as well.
i made a few nice hits, then
kind of got tired of playing and was just observing when -
“RICKY!! It’s 7:30! Are you going to work?”
alas, the dream was over…. … …… .. . . and it was still WAY
TOO EARLY according to my body’s clock. But at least it was a pleasant
and restful dream.
