i only do what I want to do. (yeah, right.)

Ho-Hum. I am sad that this weekend is waning. I enjoyed having time away from outside generated responsibilities. Everything I did I did because I wanted to do it. I verily much enjoy that sense of self-direction.

So it’s Sunday night and W-man is outside grilling steaks. We went shopping at Henry’s on Friday evening and bought the steaks with the intent of grilling them on Saturday (yesterday). So what happened? Why are they being cooked on Sunday night instead of Saturday afternoon? Aha, that’s where that thrilling self-direction comes into the picture.

Mom called us yesterday to see if we wanted to go to a screening of a showcase called “Video Vixens” at San Diego City College. Dewd, you know thats right up our alley. All the work was short video or film pieces done by women. Some were fascinating, some were dissonant and few were dull-edged. There were two done by Blair Thornely (Mom actually knows her from SGI) about a stick figured man named Mr. Lou that were cute, imaginative, and effervescent. In one he deals with yo-yo dieting and he peels of his excess flesh like it is a tight wetsuit and later reabsorbs it in the form of a cinnamon roll like thing. Very visually meaty :)

There were a few others that stay with me including one done by a fellow UCSD communications major that I felt was very effective in creating a fragmented identity. Wadini & Dad din’t like it, but I think Mom warmed to it once I explained my interpretation of it.

Another called “Nursing/Mother” dealt with a grief narrative braiding the death of an ailing cat with the aftermath of an abortion. That one made me cry and the terrible intimacy of it gripped me. All in all very scintillating & if yer back in town the evening of the 21st of June, I’ll take you to see them. (They’ll be showing at Sushi in downtown along with some performance pieces & video installations.)

We then went to pizza place/bistro called Vesuvio’s. Mom and I had some groovy ‘Appletinis’ while zee guys had beer. We also shared some pizzas which were pretty good, but the crust, oh the crust!, was simply fabuloso.

Today we have been rilly, rilly, rilly mellow. We took a long meandering walk with the dogs, worked in the yard, read, watched the last 20 minutes of The Matrix, uh, enjoyed each other’s company, and basically relaxed.

We just finished dinner & it was grand! The steaks were marinated in beer, tamari suace, & red rooster sauce. Mmmmmmmh, yum :p  wadini is becoming the BBQ maestro. Come back soon & we’ll grill on our new patio. BTW, wadini hauled out the dirt detritus last week & the gravel, sand & flagstone makings of el patio will be delivered on Tuesday. By the next time you come down the yard will be 50% more complete.

p.s. we enjoyed your visit muchisimo last weekend. Are you close to picking your baby yet?
