All these revelations about the Dub Shrub were on my mind the other day, and I had a few thoughts about it…

  • Technically, he’s clean. I mean, although he has clearly been involved in numerous nefarious transactions, in the end there is no indication that will ever be accused of any specific crime.
  • That pisses me off. I mean, the thing is that he basically gets a free pass in D.C. because there is no smoking gun. Even though his record indicates a clear abuse of our political and economic systems, since there is no visible blood on his hands, few politicians of media outlets have the guts to call a spade a spade: this guy is as crooked as Nixon.
  • On the other hand, we have former President Clinton. Yes, I admit that he was a womanizer. But what the fuck - he was dogged by an ‘Independent Counsel’ for eight fucking years … and was exonerated on every topic of investigation, including Whitewater and the Mail Room firings (or something liket that), but ended up getting IMPEACHED for lying about an extramarital trist.
  • The apparent conclusion is that it is far more important whether one violates the law in a purely technical way (lying under oath, no matter the topic) than the nature or severity of your transgression, even if it violates the spirit of the law (insider trading; breaking SEC regulations; evading the draft).
  • Yeah. Bush still sucks ass.
