uh… hmmmm.

I like Tiger Woods. I like watching him play golf. More, I like watching him win tournaments. Whether he is neck-and-neck with other top players, battling a lesser-known competitor, or winning by huge margin, I like seeing the man strike the ball - pitching to 2 feet, drivingn it 300 yards, or sinking a 13-footer to save par. His presence has imbued golf with a sense of athleticism, of true skill, and that lusty element of super-humanism that only the truly great champions (Michael Jordan, Jerry Rice, John Elway) give to a sport that make just watching it feel special.

But Tiger lost this weekend. For the first time, he lost. He was in the hunt, and he got beat. It is a first - he was finally outplayed on the back nine. The Boston Globe’s Bob Ryan captured the meaning of it all here.
