The things we do…

So here I sit, triceps in severe pain, having embarked on a return to physical fitness. I mean, not that I am grossly out of shape. But honestly, I have not lifted weights on a regular basis since, like, January 2001. That is two and a half years. That is a long time - almost ten percent of my whole life. And it’s not like I’ve been doing other good stuff like yoga or biking. No. I have been sittin in a chair, writing HTML code. Or making graphics. Or - to a lesser degree - watching TV. Or writing lyrics or looping beats. Or reading car magazines and websites. Or, occasionally, blogging.
Right. But getting back to my point, fitness is painful! It’s like this: I lifted some weights on Monday. Monday night, my elbow tendons were in severe distress. Tuesday, my triceps began to feel pretty sore. Yesterday, my chest area was the most painful. Today again it was the triceps that ached - incessantly - as I would attempt basic physical maneuvers such as brushing my teeth, putting on a shirt, or even just manipulating the mouse. But I have accepted the soreness as a small price that I am willing to pay (I’m assuming it won’t last much longer) in order to: 1) feel better about my physical well being and 2) be proud to take off my shirt when the situation calls for it - such as a hot tub or beach visit. Or before sex. Not that that has been happening much lately.
I hope my vanity is not annoying. Hopefully you are impressed by my honesty instead. But either way, that’s the long and short of it. Fitness is painful.
