This interview with autor Sheldon Rampton offers a startling take on the deliberately deceitful rationale for attacking Iraq:

First, they claimed that there were ties between Iraq and Al-Qaeda. Second, they claimed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction that could be used in future terrorist attacks against U.S. citizens on U.S. soil. Those were the two primary claims that provided the rationale for saying we had to go to war.
