Walking this afternoon, the slanting afternoon light sparkling in my eyes, the jeweled greens in so many tones, the quiet hum of human activity, I shrank into a small bubble, encapusulating Lucas. We were surrounded but we were alone. Lucas was snuggled into my chest softly dreaming as I walked and I was snuggled into my thoughts and I tasted the bittersweet truth of life.
If we lived forever we couldn’t appreciate these fleeting moments with the same surge of love and pang of regret, the complictaed melange of emotions that make us human. I thought about alternate universes and prayed that somewhere in this vast universe that a new mom and her precious son will walk together in the afternoon light forever. For me it was just this afternoon in the sun and tomorrow will bring new changes…
