Reforming my mind, so that i am not blind.
Life, she is so grand, so beautiful, and so tough. What a difference
twelve months make. Last year i was so mentally insulated, sleep deprived, and worn out that I could barely bring myself to think about the election. I truly did not care. All i could manage to think about was how do i care for this helpless infant? We briefly watched the debates, every time Mishupishu brought up politics i would limit the conversation or ignore him, and I forced myself to vote that day. The Chief Chimp “won” again, under slightly less disgusting circumstances. Last week Tom Delay was indicted and writhed with anger as he never addressed the charges, but merely dismissed his indictment as a result of the DAs personal vendetta against him. (Poor Clinton, too bad he dint have an evil mastermind like Rove to throw him that line.) Now i actually have a modicum of “control” in my life i can pay attention to politics again. I choose to pay attention because i think politics shapes our lives in a variety of way, just like it shapes the supposedly free market. Hi, $12 billion giveaway, just signed by Senate last week for the petroleum industry. Now all these other f**ks who ignore the body politic at their own peril, whats their excuse? They dont have time, they dont care, they dont understand, blah, blah, blah. It is very overwhelming and if you dont feel like youre in control of your own life I can see how it is easy to ignore the mind-bending murmur of political commentary that never ceases, that never shuts up and continually points y(our) complicity, y(our) responsibility, and y(our) role in keeping the wheels spinning.
It.
can.
be.
too.
much.
I think what is important is to recognize that the ideals are significant, those mythologies taught in Social Studies classes all over Amerika. Striving for those ideals enriches us. It motivates us. & by us i mean me, of course. That is why i am choosing the leave the Democratic party and re-registering as an Independent. Why? Because i am tired of this flawed means of representation. The Dems seem to me to just be an extension of the problem, except for Barack. He makes me think about moving to Illinois just so i can have a rad senator instead of the interchangeable and shellacked Feinboxsteiner. The system is flawed. It is not perfect by any mean, but it is a system. I think we just need a new means of operating the system. So my small gesture for the need for change is to join the amorphous masses — please help me I am becoming Dad
People need to think, instead of being short-sighted, easily manipulated drones. People need to realise that we have problems of a much larger magnitude than whether or not the neighbors daughter has an abortion or if your co-worker can legally marry their same sex partner or if Joe-bob can order his butt-plug rifle online. China & India are coming. The industrialization of the developing world is going to change things a helluva lot more substantially than gay civil rights, womens reproductive choices or gun sovereignty. It’s a kind of straw man. Personally I try to be more focused on a global perspective like burdflu in Romania. What?
Uh oh, gotta go. The wee one is awake and needing some momtime, some clinging monkey time.
More later.

I am glad that you have been able to begin to re-engage in the world around us. I cannot imagine what it is really like bringing a new life into this world and - more than that - being such a dedicated parent. I welcome you back to the Dewch!
I really liked this quote:
The industrialization of the developing world is going to change things a helluva lot more substantially than gay civil rights, womens reproductive choices or gun sovereignty.
The root of the problem is the scumsuckers who prey on the fears of the ignorant. Thugs who care only for treasure and self-enrichment. If slandering gays will do the trick, and help them scrape themselves a few extra votes, then - do it! If sending young people to die in the desert will do the trick - send them! This ugliness, besides being ugly, may come at the cost of all of our futures. What we need to do is turn *that* into a soundbiteslogan that will trick the dumbfuck lowlifes into supporting righteous causes, instead of self-righteous ones.
