an evening with perpaw
a few evenings ago dad & i had the rare treat of hanging out together with lucas - just the three of us as mom was at an art class & wade was volunteering at the community center. we went to dinner at our favourite mejican restaurant where lucas fed himself a whole chicken flauta! then the three of us went to the studio where mom studies where we met her teacher and looked at some of the art work — some of the art work was fabulous. it was neat to be in such a creative space. then dad, lucas & i went to whole foods where we stocked up for the week. then dad dropped us off & took off for casaReY.
it is really neat to see the close relationship that lucas & nono have developed. lucas cries fiercely whenever dad leaves. when dad is here with us, lucas will often indicate his preference to be held by him over both wade and me. mom and i were talking about it one day & came to the conclusion that lucas is just one lucky little kid cos none of us (mom, dad, wade, & me (& you)) have had the fortune to have that type of relationship with our grandfathers.
I think relationships with members of your family other than your parents or siblings can be beautiful ways to expand your understanding of the world and your place in it. Lucky Lucas has never been more true.

I couldn’t agree more. The friendship that they have established is quite special to see. Lucas’ fortune is profound and I think that Dad is also blessed to have such a special little child with whom to share his influence.
I have a handful of memories with grandpa Jack, and remember how wonderful even that brief connection with our grandpa was to me. I can only imagine that Lucas’ youth will be full of wonderful memories with and wisdom from his dear old Grand Daddy!
