Dude, Where’s My Car?

One of the many joys of true urban City life is the infrequency with which I need to drive. To put it another way, I drive when I want to, not because I have to. That means I can walk lotsa places, or I can cab it or take the MUNI. It is neat.

A side-effect of this phenomena is that I sometimes forget where I park my car. (Full disclosure: I don’t have ‘a parking spoot’). Yeah that’s right - I lose my car. It is a frustrating - but occassionaly entertaining - fact of life that not only do you have to find a spot to park, you have to remember it many days later. Given the reality that I might park on any of 8 or 9 blocks around my apartment, it is not a trivial thing to ‘look for’ the car if I can’t remember where I left it. So I frequently spend a few minutes mentally ‘retracing my footsteps’, trying to recall the last time I drove, then visualizing my subsequent walk home from my car.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. And so it was, the other day, that I lost my car. Couldn’t for the life of me remember where I’d parked. Ended up spending a good ten minutes or so walking the streets of Pac Heights in search of my coupe. Pretty funny, right? Well, I was thankful that I was not in a hurry at the time (though that has happened), and that the car was not ticketed (that too). Of course, I did find it eventually.

So be thankful, dear reader, that you have a trusty parking spot, driveway, or relatively uncrowded streets in your neighborhood. And that you, unlike me, don’t ever lose your car, dude.

Woops! Gladden you found it tho.

I remember when we lived in PB in the duplex and even tho I drove the truck everyday it would still happen cos I’d rarely park in the same place twice.

Then one morning I took la Mishu out for a walk and passed the spot I remebered parking the truck the night before, only there was no truck there. For a full ten minutes the mind could reconcile that fact and I was convinced that my memory was wrong, that I’d really parked some place else.

But, no, the truck had been there but now it was gone.

Some dumb person stole an old truck that had just been totalled out by the insurance sompany i.e. a now salvaged title with an empty tank.

I still miss that little truck.

It’s a weird feeling tho when you are totally like, dewd, where’s my car?
