Blog Candy: High Security Cavalcade

Found this interesting nugget over at NBC News’ blog, The Daily Nightly:

Once the motorcade started rolling we all knew this was not a normal 50-minute drive into the mountains. The motorcade moved at between 50 and 80 miles per hour through downtown Beirut. These were armor-plated Suburbans and armor-plated 10 passenger vans. It was amazing.

Read the whole thing. It is just this kind of first-hand, delicious detail that makes blogging by all - including the well connected and corporate-sponsored - so compelling. Unlike my pedestrial tales of fights-on-the-muni and observations-from-afar, people around the world who are in the midst of astounding events can relate them unfiltered to the rest of us, not edited-and-produced-for-mass-consumption like each and every story on the local news.
