Fake movie reviews and the decline of western civilization

I finally dragged myself to the multiplex this weekend to see the Da Vinci Code. After seeing the film, I left the theater fairly upset. Don’t get me wrong – I liked the film plenty. In fact, I thought that director Ron Howard had done a terrific job of translating the novel into a cinematic [...]

Spy vs. Skype

I no longer have a ‘land line’. Instead I use my cell phone and internet-based telephone service, via my cable broadband connection. The upshot: by virtue of being VoIP, my calls are not subject to NSA wiretapping.

Jeans on Parade

Here I sit, inside my favorite cafe on Fillmore Street (the Grove), in an accidentally selected table but strategically chosen seat, watching my fellow cafeterians parade into and out of the space. The cafe, I should note, is not your ordinary cafe but a rustic and charming one with a full kitchen and menu of [...]

Brave new media world

WashingtonPost.com, one of the better online ‘mainstream media’ sites, has announced their headfirst dive into the the new media world of the interactive community by allowing reader comments on all of their articles. This is a move I consider both brave and a no-brainer. On the one hand, their status as the nation’s de facto [...]

Maconomics

Ok, so I did it. Got me a Mac. I am really excited to start using it (though I am still writing this on my Dell). My project today is to install Boot Camp on the mac and then install my important apps (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc) onto the Windows portion of my Mac, thereby freeing [...]

Howard Dean Rules

The first ever Yearly Kos convention for progressive political bloggers and activists has been a resounding success, drawings thousands of attendees, as well as widespread media coverage in publications from the New York Times to the Chronicle. Track Stars: Just Jack – Heartburn

There is something about this song that has always grabbed me. “There’s a lion tearin’ holes in my ventricle.” It is a somber song of sadness, regret, and fond recollection. I can relate. The music is gentle yet the mood of the song is intense. Take a listen, I think you’ll like it. [audio:http://www.organicmutant.com/audio/Heartburn.mp3]

“Who’s cool now, fucko?”

Pardon my French, but that just about sums it up. Seriously, I have such a major problem with self-proclaimed protectors of coolness, like this poor lady, who is convinced that her lack of exposure to pop-culutre (read: primetime TV and The Godfather) somehow makes her superior to the huddled masses who are glued to each [...]

Talk about ominous…

For Ford, the once-mighty automaker who has slid unflinchingly towards irrelevance and, quite possibly, bankruptcy, for the past ten years, an awful convergence of bad luck yesterday: In another ominous sign for Ford Motor Co., the automaker’s stock price skidded to a 52-week low [...] down 13 cents to $6.66, its lowest level in a [...]

Do people want the truth?

Over the years, I have spent many hours reading or watching programs about 9/11: from the sad, official news accounts to alternative explainations of what happened, soties that ask hard questions as to how such a disaster could have unfolded. Articles, websites, and films that ponder the oddities, peculiarities, and downright suspicious events that just [...]

The Organic Revolution

It has begun. With a single sentence. Or fragment. You know what I mean. It is revolutionary. It turns. And like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.
