Getting ready for the desert is a concerto. There are many aspects to packing for 24 hours in some of the harshest and most sparsely populated land in Southern California. Bringing everything you could possiby need is a daunting task. Seriously there are so many items you could possibly need, so limiting your baggage is the first task. Our priority list goes something like this:
- Food & nibbles for the meal times you will spend in the wild;
- water for drinking, water for washing, water for refreshing;
- camping gear. feel free to get as elaborate or simple as you like. some friends of ours swear by their inflatable mattress. we do fine with sleeping pads & a big sheepskin;
- personal necessities like sunblock, hats, camel bags, hiking boots, &tc;
- night time gear: fire pit, firewood, stuff to keep you warm (we’re expecting night time temperatures in the high 50s, so we’re not stressing too much about those items;
- entertainment items like books, toys, liquor;
- a good attitude.
Have fun!
