you can make an omelet out of an egg, but you can’t make an egg out of an omelet

This morning my first thought was ‘Where’s Lucas?’. Of course he was still with his grandmother, so my next thought was ‘O, right, I get to sleep in!’, which we did for a while. Then the question loomed ‘What shall we do today?’ and since there is so much work left on the whole bath redo that is what we decided to do. Note: there was no discussion, just non-verbal communication and agreement.

So after breakfast, we began. This is where frustration crept in. I was placing some of the woodwork around the windows, trying to visualize their placement and attempting to see how to proceed. Wade saw what I was doing and came over and moved the piece a half inch to the left.

“What are you doing?”

“That goes there.”

“No, it doesn’t. It goes where I had it.”

“That’s not how you explained it to me.”

“Yes, I did. It has to go there because…”

Let’s just say that it got heated. We are both new to what we are doing. We both have different ways of processing information. I collect information, I process, I plan, I visualize then I synthesize the information, tell Wade what I have learned and in the case of powertools, Wade executes. Well, this time the information, which is complicated and layered, transmuted in the explanation and from my mouth to Wade’s ear became a little…off.
For about 20 minutes there was tension, some raised voices, resignation, surrender, and compromise. We came to an agreement on how to proceed and got down to business. Wade brought our the router to finish the woodwork and I got out the primer to paint the raw wood of the windows and I painted and painted, eventually Wade came in and joined me in the painting.

Eventually Lucas returned home. He had a full 24 hours. Saturday he went to a dinner/dance and Sunday morning we went a wedding. By the time he returned he was tired. He laid in bed for a while, but then was ready for his favourite treat, a blend. Shortly thereafter Nanna and Nonno arrived to cllect Lucas and he was off again.

Eventually I finished painting in the bathroom and Wade ran off to go to Hell Depot to collect some final piece of ephemera to ensure the correct operation of the router and I stayed home to collect my thoughts.

Sometimes I pick the name of my entries based on what music I am listening to, or a book I’m reading or some piece of thought that becomes lodged in my brain. I picked the title of this entry because I was reading an article on life, the universe, and everything (no link, sorry) and I could not get that phrase out of my head. In aw ay it was related to our woodwork issues, but also to life in general. What can you make out of an omelet?

Before Lucas’ bath and bedtime, we watched the classic Chaplin classic, The Kid. Lucas dug it and so did we. Then he went bed early and we relaxed for a few child-free hours.
