Last year I taught myself to knit and it has become a minor obessession.  Last year I knitted Wade and Lucas matching scarfs in crazy colors.  Needless to say they have only been worn once or twice.  This year I am working on a very loooooooooong scarf for myself, a scarf for Dad that’s been in the works for months, and finishing a scarf for a friend — she started knitting it and I am finishing it for her.  These projects have been dragging out as I am not a fast knitter, but rather slow, sloth-like knitter.  I have been checking out patterns for my next level up project and am being confounded by the knitting lingo.  Here’s an example: Rnd 1: *Sl 1, kl, psso, k4, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd — 42 sts rem. or this one: *K1, [k1, p3] 4 times, pl; repeat from * to end of rnd or: *K1, yo, k1, p2tog, p1, [k1, p3] 2 times, k1, p2tog, k1, yo…blah blah blah. I am confused and intimidated.  I keep looking at books, searching for the one pattern that will be clear so that I can plunge in and become more knowledgable about this creative endeavor.

I really want to develop the ability to create for myself and my loved ones because I don’t see what I want out there.  Once I figure these abbreviatiosn out I hope that I can forge ahead and challenge myself  Just copying them out has given me more insight.  Before they looked like ‘#^E#(*D E&#&(UW ^#&*&(JD’ but now the glimmer of their meaning is becoming more apparent, so maybe we’ll have some advancement sooner rather than later.
